Description

We offer a comprehensive training course on the topic of „Maintenance of wheelchair wheels. This can take place either at our premises in Chemnitz or at your premises anywhere in Germany.

The target groups of the course are medical establishments, wheelchair sports clubs, technical staff in rehabilitation clinics as well as ambitious and interested private individuals. Previous knowledge is not necessary.

The course is designed for a maximum of 3 participants in order to ensure individual and high-quality support.

The course is divided into 3 theoretical and 4 practical parts:

  • Theory part 1 “Basic knowledge about (wheelchair) wheels”What components does a wheel consist of? How do they interact with each other (keywords: spoke tension / concentricity / stiffness)? Which properties are relevant?
  • Theory part 2 “Tools”What tools are needed (for small / large service)? How to use them properly (keywords: torque wrench, tensiometer, centring device)?
  • Theory part 3 “Manufacturers and suppliers”Which manufacturers are there? What are the quality differences? From which suppliers can products be purchased (key words: wheels, tyres, hoses, rim tape, ball bearings, hand rims, spokes, tools etc.)?

 

  • Practical part 1 “Preparation”How do I prepare the bike (cleaning, dismantling attachments)? What measurements are taken before maintenance? What should be recorded? Is maintenance worthwhile at all (anymore)? How do I prepare the tools?
  • Practical part 2 “Ball bearings”When is a ball bearing worn out? How is this checked? How is a ball bearing replaced professionally?
  • Practical part 3 “Centering”How should be proceeded? What must be taken into account? What tolerances for lateral and radial run-out are reasonable? What spoke tension should be applied? How is the wheel “pressed”?
  • Practical part 4 “(re-)assembly of accessories”How can rim tape, tyre, inner tube and push rim be mounted gently and durably? What tools are available for this? What should the final inspection look like and what should be recorded?

 

The duration of the course is about 4 hours. Courses are available Monday to Saturday.

For the practical part, all necessary tools and exercise material will be provided. Of course, you can also use your own tools and wheels. The practical part 3 “Centring” will be carried out with rope spoke wheels (Spinergy®, Tauwerk ®) as well as with steel spoke wheels. Used or new tools can be purchased at reduced rates on the day of the course.

All participants will receive course documentation for all theoretical and practical parts covered, including a maintenance log template and a certificate of attendance.

Upon request and if suitable, the certificate #8220;Authorised Tauwerk® Service” can also be issued.

The course costs are independent of the number of participants (max. 3 participants). Please contact us if more than 3 participants are to be trained.

In the case of an on-site course at your premises, travel costs of €50 per 100 kilometres or part thereof (one-way) will be charged in addition to the course costs. No further costs will be incurred.
